LM2500 Gas Turbine – GE Aircraft Engines

Decundi Inspection Services provide inspections for GE Aircraft Engines and in the past, we have carried out inspections during overhaul of LM2500 – Single Shank Gas Generator at GE Packaged Power, Inc. Inspection was carried out during teardown of the main components which make up the LM2500 – Single Shank Gas Generator “including and without limitation to any of the parameters in the scope of work” where the main parts are noted to be: Bullet Nose, Bellmouth, Front Frame, Compressor Rotor, Compressor Stator, Compressor Rear Frame, Combustor, First Stage Nozzle, High Pressure Turbine Rotor, Second Stage Nozzle, Turbine Mid Frame, Low Pressure Turbine Rotor, Low Pressure Turbine Stator, Rear Frame, Gearbox. Of note, General Electric LM2500 is an industrial and marine gas turbine produced by GE Aviation. The LM2500 is a derivative of the General Electric CF6-6 aircraft engine.

The scope of work associated with the overall of LM2500 – Single Shank Gas Generator includes and is not limited to the summary generated by the Engine Maintenance Unit (EMU). The line items on the summary will include these operations: Fall out % – Disassembly and Inspection Compressor Front Frame – Compressor Stator Cases – Compressor Rotor – Compressor Rear Frame; Combustor – High Pressure Turbine Stage 1 Nozzle – High Pressure Turbine Stage 2 Nozzle – High Pressure Turbine Rotor – Turbine Mid Frame – Inlet Gearbox – Transfer Gearbox – Accessories – Final Assembly and Preparation to Ship – Gas Generator Test Report.

Witnessed overall of Gas Generator, Model LM2500 - Single Shank following which, performance testing after the completion of the overhaul was carried out. Performance testing of the Gas Generator (Engine) was carried out in accordance with GE procedure and in this regard, the seal break-in of the Engine was carried out per the respective Table (refer to procedure above). As required by the narrative at the respective Table in the procedure, point № 1 through point № 13 of the procedure was carried out with acceptable result.

Shutdown of the Engine for 10 minutes was carried out following which, the Scavenge connections (at the turbine exhaust end) and also the Nose Gear were inspected for oil leakage. No oil leakage was detected and the Gas Generator, Model LM2500 - Single Shank (Overhaul) was found to be ready for the acceptance test after the successful completion of the functional check-out as stated above. Other parameters which are recorded by the computer program used to monitor the functional check-out of the Engine includes checking the Engine Air Temperature, Engine Air Pressure, Engine Oil Pressure, Engine Oil Temperature, Gas Fuel, Variable Geometry, Engine Vibration, Valve Position and Relative Humidity. Other parameters associated with the overall and acceptance testing (there is more information related to the testing of this equipment) which will be provided after completion of projects.
